Solid waste disposal. Observe regulations.
SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Non-toxic particle mask.
VENTILATION:
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: Protective gloves, if subject to dermatitis, safety goggles, coveralls to protect clothing from excessive dusting.
SECTION IX - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Store in tightly sealed containers. Do not get wet, use good housekeeping practices. Avoid breathing dust. Can cause damage to asphalt, so avoid mixing, staging or any contact with asphalt.

Exposure limits are for respirable fraction |
Crystalline free silica, in the form of quartz, is present in these sands at a maximum level of 3% by weight. The proportion of the silica that is in the respirable size range (<10 µm particle size) varies and is always less then 0.015 percent of the total sand by weight.
NIOSH recommends a Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 0.5 mg/m3 for respirable free silica.

SECTION VI - HEALTH HAZARD DATA
The portion of each product that can be classified as respirable crystalline silica is described in the following section. The remainder of the material is not classified as a health hazard.
Symptoms of overexposure to crystalline silica Inhaled: Shortness of breath, coughing, reduced pulmonary function. Excessive inhalation of crystalline silica dust will result in respiratory disease, including silicosis, pneumoconiosis and pulmonary fibrosis.
Contact with eyes or skin: Eye irritation
Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal discomfort.
Suspected cancer agent? Yes - respirable crystalline silica portion only.
Federal OSHA. No
NTP. Yes. Respirable Crystalline silica has been listed in the 6th Annual Report on Carcinogens.
IARC. Yes. Monographs on the Evaluation of the Carcinogenic Risk of Chemicals to Humans
(Vol 68, 1997) concludes that there is sufficient evidence in humans for the carcinogenicity of inhaled crystalline silica in the forms of quartz and cristobalite (Group 1) in certain industrial circumstances, but that carcinogenicity may be dependent on inherent characteristics of the crystalline silica or external factors affecting its biological activity or distribution if its polymorphs.
Medical Conditions Aggravated by Exposure
Individuals with pulmonary or respiratory disease should avoid exposure to dust.
First Aid Procedures See section IX
SECTION VII - PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE
Personal Protective Equipment:
Where the creation of dust is unavoidable, use conventional NIOSH approved or equivalent respiratory protection equipment based on considerations of airborne concentration and duration of exposure
Gloves: Impervious to moisture
Eye: Use appropriate eye protection to minimize contact with dust from dry product, or with wet product after mixing with water.
Other: Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the specific application. Clean clothing which has become dusty.
SECTION VIII - CONTROL MEASURES
Engineering Controls: Use adequate ventilation. Do not permit dust to accumulate in work area.
Leak and Spill Procedure: If uncontaminated, collect for reuse or disposal. Use dustless procedures. If contaminated, use appropriate method and container for contaminant.
Waste Disposal: If uncontaminated, dispose as a non-metallic mineral. If contaminated, use appropriate method for contaminant in accordance with applicable regulation(s).
Handling Procedures and Equipment: Avoid creation of respirable dust if possible. Use adequate ventilation and dust collection. Avoid contact with wet product during use.
Storage Requirements: Store in a dry place.
Special Shipping Information: Protect from moisture.
SECTION IX - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: Flush with running water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention.
Skin: Wash with soap and water. For caustic burns to skin, consult a doctor.
Ingestion: Drink large amounts of water. Do not induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.
Gross Inhalation of Dust: Remove to fresh air. Give oxygen with artificial respiration as needed. Obtain medical attention for treatment, observation and support as needed.
